Power Control Solutions (PCS) was founded in 2004 to focus on the application of high-speed communications, advanced distributed computing technology, and artificial intelligence based modeling techniques to the domain of power systems load control, power dispatch, and energy management. As power demand increases, and the complexity of the power supply and distribution systems increases, the advantages of having intelligent, fine-grained, and automated load control and management systems in place becomes readily apparent. Currently the power distribution system suffers from a lack of technological modernization that unnecessarily increases the cost of electricity and contributes to occurrences of power events such as the one in August 2003 in the New York / Ohio / Ontario region. PCS provides solutions that address these issues through the application of advanced technologies from the areas of distributed computing and artificial intelligence to the challenges facing the power industry.
Since its founding, PCS has seen increasing interest in the areas of modernization of the power grid. The Department of Energy, the utilities, and large power consumers are recognizing the benefits that come from modernizing the power infrastructure in a similar way to how other industries have been modernized in recent years. As others recognize these benefits, we seem to be approaching a tipping point
Power Control Solutions is poised to take advantage of this sea change in order to become the predominate provider to technology for modernizing the power industry. This industry, which used to be considered a relatively closed and slow to change market opportunity, is about to become a predominate purchaser of technology.
But the power industry is still a very specialized industry, and although there will be many interested in selling technology into this emerging market, it is only those companies, such as Power Control Solutions, that have an in-depth understanding of the complexity of the domain, and the needs of the customers, that will become major contributors to this Herculean effort of bringing the power generation and distribution sector into the the 21st century.
